Minister Cvetkovic: The Government will curb inflationary pressures

Serbian Minister of Finance Mirko Cvetkovic stated today that the Government intends to continue curbing inflationary pressures next year, as it has done in 2007. “Our plan is to reduce public expenditure and prevent inflationary pressures in that way, as we have done this year”, Cvetkovic told journalists in the Serbian Parliament, commenting on the statement issued by the National Bank of Serbia Governor Radovan Jelasic that it would be difficult to maintain the projected 6% inflation rate next year.

inflationary pressures in that way, as we have done this year”, Cvetkovic told

journalists in the Serbian Parliament, commenting on the statement issued by

the National Bank of Serbia Governor Radovan Jelasic that it would be difficult

to maintain the projected 6% inflation rate next year.

Asked who was responsible that the 2008 budget was not adopted by December 15,

as it should have been according to the law, Cvetkovic replied it was

“difficult to tell”. He stated that budget for the next year will be adopted by

the end of this week and added that by that time “everyone will forget whether

it was adopted by December 15 or Dec. 19”.

A debate on amendments to the proposed 2008 budget is currently underway in the

Parliament.
