The IMF commended the reform of the Fiscal Administration in Serbia
The IMF Fiscal issues Department mission, that stayed in Belgrade during last October and November, presented it’s report on the “Reform of the Serbian Fiscal Administration – further steps”.
Upon analyzing the situation within the Fiscal Administration, the Mission declared “being impressed by the progress realized during the past twelve months in the implementation of reform projects identified within the last, 2002 Mission report”.
Specially remarked was “the start of a number of successful initiatives, representing a “healthy” foundation for the further reform program”. Among other achievements, the Mission stated also: the reorganization of the Administration, the taking over of the former ZOP fiscal competences, the creation of the Center for Major Taxpayers, as well as a significant Administration efficiency increase. Among necessary further steps, the Mission stated the following: a more precise distinction of fiscal competences between the Ministry of finance and economy and the Administration, the improvement of quality of services provided to citizens and businessmen, the introduction of the VAT and a further simplification of the fiscal system itself.
