French assistance to Yugoslavia

After yesterday’s talks in Paris, between Mr. Bozidar Djelic, minister of finance and economy in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, and his colleague, the French minister of finance and economy, Mr. Francis Mer, Mr. Djelic estimated that the French bilateral help to our country, for the year 2003. will amount 15 to 20 million Euros.

Considering that the French help to Yugoslavia is 3.6 million Euros for the current year, this means that, next year, this help will be multiplied by five. On the occasion of the talks with Mr. Mer, minister Djelic obtained the assurance that, on the occasion of one of the following meetings of the G-8 Group – “industrially most powerful countries in the world”, France will raise the question of the debts of companies located in the province of Kosovo and Metohija.

– Funds aimed to cover these debts should be provided from the budget of the Republic of Serbia, while we still don’t collect any taxes or public income on the territory of Kosovo and Metohija, explained Mr. Djelic.

During the talks, it was also discussed of the improvement of the bilateral economic cooperation between Yugoslavia and France, as well as of the approaching visit to Belgrade of the President of the French Business Confederation (MEDEF), Mr. Ernest Antoine Seilliere.

– The President of the MEDEF should come to visit Belgrade on November 21st and 22nd, with a delegation of approximately 50 Head executives of important French companies, declared Mr. Djelic, adding that he’s expecting this delegation to be even more numerous, after his yesterday’s talks with Mr. Mer.
