Dinkic attends regional meeting in Slovenia

Serbian Minister of Finance Mladjan Dinkic, who is attending a regional meeting of ministers of finance and national bank governors at Brdo near Kranj, Slovenia, said that participants in the meeting agreed to boost regional cooperation, establish free trade among non-EU member states and increase investment in order to improve economic development.

Dinkic told the Tanjug news agency that he talked with his Slovenian counterpart Dusan Mramor about Slovenia’s experiences on its path towards the European Union.

Dinkic said that Serbia must adjust its budget to EU requirements if it wants to join Europe, which will take a number of years. According to experiences and conclusions made at the meeting in Kranj, the state will have to make significant changes in the planning of its budget in the years to come.

He said that member of a European commission for EU enlargement Janez Potocnik promised to help Serbia and Montenegro enter Europe as soon as possible.

Dinkic invited his Slovenian counterpart Dusan Mramor to visit Belgrade, because Slovenia has expressed great interest in Serbia’s economic growth.

Many Slovenian companies want to invest in Serbia, especially after Slovenia has become an EU member state, said Dinkic and voiced hope that the Slovenian market will also open for Serbian products. He said that Slovenia’s representatives in the meeting welcomed that initiative, and that improvement of cooperation in that field is expected.
